Mountain View, CA -- January 21, 2002 - FireViewer, publisher of the industry-standard platform for graphics-rich mobile applications on handheld devices, announced that General Motors Corporation has purchased and deployed 200 units of FireViewer Suite at the 2002 Detroit Motor Show. The solution comprises a detailed, full-color multimedia specification sheet for all of GM's Saab models, deployed via Memory Stick on Sony Clie handhelds.
"We're pleased, but not surprised, that General Motors chose FireViewer," said CEO Bill Mitchell. "We make the only integrated HTML/multimedia platform on the handheld market, and our ability to distribute content via Memory Stick was central to the customer need. Using FireViewer Suite, GM's system integrator was able to lay out all the exhibit content using standard Web tools such as FrontPage, then make changes in seconds. These changes could then be distributed to all exhibit staff via memory card, permitting error-free diffusion of information -- without requiring any technical know-how from the exhibitor."
"Our 12,000 customers know that information is power," said Mitchell. "Their information needs vary widely, from online blueprints to intranet documents to service manuals with complex schematics; FireViewer's platform gets decision-making material to handheld devices fast, effectively, and affordably."
FireViewer's platform is designed to be the secure and scalable last mile between the enterprise network and employees who need integrated, instantaneous access to applications, documents and rich media in a Web environment on their PDA. The platform supports all handheld device document transports, including wireless, memory card, infrared and HotSync; in addition, it supports over 85% of all handheld devices ever made, including all Palm, IBM, Sony, Symbol, Kyocera, Samsung and other PalmOS handheld devices
